Towards a collaborative digital world:
The basics of digital security and open source alternatives

Everything we do online leaves a trace of data that opens vulnerabilities that could be exploited by bad actors.

This workshop covers the basics of digital security: by understanding our digital footprint and the most common online threats, we will learn how to build strategies to feel safer online.

A key strategy for a healthier digital life is the open source alternative – rather than relying on profiting from your data, they are built and sustained by communities. We will cover how these communities work and introduce open source alternatives apps and platforms that you can use on your daily life.

Workshop topics:

  • Digital security (privacy | common threats | scam and how to act | encryption)
  • Your digital Footprint
  • Open Source (basics of the movement and its community vs. free & commercial platforms | why it matters | social and safe networks | Open Source alternatives )
  • Practical Part: Experimenting with Open Source alternatives & how to find out if the app is actually Open Source

No previous experience or knowledge is needed.

Language: Mainly due to the technical nature of the workshop, the main language will be English, but we can assist people who are not fluent.
